CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA — Kari Lerner, Democratic nominee for Congress in Florida’s 19th congressional district against far-right Rep. Byron Donalds, issued the following statement regarding Florida’s new six-week abortion ban:
Today, we lose our freedoms as Florida bans abortions after six weeks. Today, women’s healthcare has been criminalized.
Today, as State Rep. Anna Eskamani put it, Florida enacts what is ‘by far one of the cruelest abortion bans in the country.” [1]
We must fight back and hold those responsible for this cruelty responsible — like our opponent Byron Donalds… one of the cruelest of them all.
Donalds is a sponsor of the so-called Life at Conception Act, which bans all abortions. He voted against the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act and against the Women’s Health Protection Act, saying reproductive healthcare is “sick, perverse, and erodes our nation’s moral compass.” [2] [3] [4]
Fortunately national organizations like EMILYs List are putting extremists like Byron Donalds on notice: “Trump and the members of his VP shortlist support an extreme anti-abortion agenda that further endangers reproductive rights in America, from abortion to IVF to birth control.” [5]
Florida’s tyrannical laws have nearly killed several women with pregnancy complications already. [6]
After today it will only get worse, unless we defeat the likes of our far-right, election-denying opponent Byron Donalds.
